DIY Vanilla Extract Recipe

Ingredients:
- 8 oz. Glass Bottle or Jar
- 7 Organic Vanilla Beans (I purchase from Beanilla, click here.)
- 1 cup Vodka 70 Proof/35% Alcohol (or you can also use Bourbon, Rum or Brandy; any brand/quality) I used cheap vodka.
Now what:
One: Slice
Slice each bean once long-ways and place in bottle. (If it helps to cut them into smaller pieces so they fit in the bottle more easily.)
Two: Pour
Pour one cup of vodka, rum or alcohol of your choice. Make sure vanilla beans are completely submerged.
Three: Shake
Shake once or twice a week
Four: Wait
Wait about 8 weeks
Voila, your alcohol has turned into delicious vanilla! Store it at room temp and out of direct sunlight. Love it!
Extra:
*After I make a batch, I put the vanilla beans in the individual bottles. When I use up the vanilla, I pour more vodka into the bottle and set aside with a note of the ready date. The vanilla beans can be reused 2 – 3 times.
*I buy organic vanilla beans. Don’t be afraid to spend a little money here. Making your own Vanilla is a huge money saver and a wonderful gift.
